What products do we use to control ticks?

Our tick control treatments are as close to organic as possible. Our program offers the most environmentally safe and effective tick and mosquito control treatments possible. The products we use are recommended by the Cornell Cooperative Extension and approved by the Department of Environmental Conservation.

We use a synthetic replication of what’s found in the African Chrysanthemum plant, called Astro Permethrin. It has an extremely low impact on the environment with great results. All we ask is for customers to avoid treated areas until the solution has fully dried, which takes about 15 minutes.

The product is a topical solution. It does not penetrate the soil and it does not soak through and enter ground water. After it has dried, it will not penetrate the skin. In fact, your family and pets can roll around on it without risk.

We are the only company on the East End using this product. We don’t believe the solution should be worse than the problem and after two decades of testing all available products for tick control, this is the best option. However, like most topical treatments, it must be applied on a monthly schedule to ensure effective tick control. After a month, your property will become susceptible to ticks and you and your family will be at risk of tick bites.

Pet treatments:
Your pets (dogs) must be treated with Frontline. Do not let your pets run off property or through woods as we cannot control the ticks if you do not control your pets. They will pick up ticks and bring them back to you. Please note that Frontline is only effective if the tick actually bites the pet. Otherwise, the tick can be transferred to you and can bite you.

Other Non-Spray Components of our Tick Control Program

Damminix applications
These are recommended for properties that are close to fields or wooded areas. Small cardboard tubes are filled with specially treated cotton and strategically placed throughout your property. Small animals and rodents find and bring the cotton back to their dens to use as nesting materials. Each time the animal lies down on the cotton all the ticks on the animal die.

In addition to your regular scheduled tick spraying, we recommend 2 Damminix treatments per year, one in spring and one in fall.

Nest Boxes
East End Tick Control makes and installs nest boxes for owls, hawks and other birds of prey that feed on mice and rodents which can help greatly reduce the local tick and rodent population. Mice can carry hundreds of ticks. Have a nest box installed on your property and let nature help to reduce tick presence on your property.

What product do we use to control mosquitoes?
We have tested just about every product available to control mosquitoes. The only product we have found that works for repelling mosquitoes is garlic oil! When sprayed on your property, the garlic odor disappears in 15-30 minutes and so do the mosquitoes. It is not the garlic odor that keeps the mosquitoes away, but the 33 sulfur compounds in garlic that become systemic in your yard’s vegetation. This application last anything from a few days to a month depending upon the weather and your location’s proximity to mosquito breeding grounds.

Mosquitoes are transient insects, they come and go with the wind and very hard to control for any extended period. If anyone guarantees the they can control mosquitoes all summer long, they are misinforming you. We mostly do mosquito control sprays for parties, weddings and barbeques.
